PR & Social Media Specialist – Cultural Council of Palm Beach County

Job Summary:

The PR and Social Media Specialist oversees the Cultural Council’s public relations and social media strategy, and contributes to the organization’s internal and external communications. An enthusiastic cheerleader for arts and culture in The Palm Beaches, the PR and Social Media Specialist is responsible for driving the cultural tourism PR program, as well as raising local awareness for the Council’s mission, programs and events. This includes building relationships and interacting with media, writing press releases and pitches, coordinating press events and FAM tours, and contributing strategy and content to the Council’s social media program.

The PR and Social Media Specialist manages the national public relations firm contract and scope of work, and interfaces with the Council’s internal marketing team, member organizations and other important cultural and business partners. This is a full-time position that reports to the Marketing Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Managing the Council’s annual public relations strategy/calendar, including all press release topics, pitches, media angles and targets
  • Managing the Council’s social media strategy; contributing to the content development (assisted by others on the marketing team)
  • Assisting with the Council’s communications efforts, including key messages, letters and talking points around arts advocacy and other issues related to the sector
  • Serving as the day-to-day contact to the Council’s national public relations agency by participating in status calls/meetings, coordinating approvals, contributing to strategy, etc.
  • Serving as the point of contact for all incoming press inquiries for the Council; building relationships with the local and regional press; and working with media regularly to place stories across all platforms and subject matter (travel, lifestyle, arts, entertainment, business)
  • Coordinating with arts organizations to leverage press opportunities
  • Arranging media FAM tours (in conjunction with national PR firm); creating unique itineraries and experiences; scheduling; and accompanying the media to ensure successful coverage
  • Managing out-of-market press events or deskside meetings (in conjunction with national PR firm)
  • Working with all members of the marketing team to create integrated messaging
  • Providing detailed metrics and measurement of all earned media
  • Collecting all press clips and maintaining the press room section of the website

Education and Experience:

  • B.A. in communications, marketing, English, public relations or journalism
  • Minimum of 3 years related experience
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Knowledge/relationships with local press; understanding of the regional/national media landscape
  • Experience using social media platforms and social media analytics/scheduling software (Hootsuite, Sprout Social, etc.)
  • Experience with paid social media campaigns (especially on Facebook) preferred
  • Organized, detail oriented and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively
  • Experience with Cision, PR Newswire, a plus
